THE IMPORTANCE OF A NEWBORN PHOTOSHOOT

With having a baby on the way, or even just arrived, there are so many things that compete for your attention… The doctors and midwives, the hospital, the nursery, the pram, the ‘how on earth do I look after this tiny, dependent human being?’

It’s sometimes easy to overlook the true importance of Newborn Photography with so much going on in your life right now, but stop for a second and give it some thought…

AVOID THE PAIN OF REGRET

Over the years, we’ve heard so many people say that they didn’t get round to newborn pictures, and just how much they wish they had.

We simply NEVER hear clients regret GETTING pictures taken.

Whether your baby was born early or late, if they are your first or your last, only one thing is absolutely certain as they grow. They CHANGE. They change QUICKLY!

PREGNANCY, MATERNITY & BUMP TO BABY PORTRAITS

It all begins with you… Celebrate and embrace your journey of motherhood.

There is something incredibly special about the bond between a mother and her unborn child. Professionally capturing that time, the feeling and emotion at that point, is something we strive to deliver upon.

We love capturing the joy at this time, artistically and creatively to produce beautiful statement images to show the love, hope, and anticipation between the parents and their unborn baby.

We recommend that the ideal time to photograph your bump is between 34-36 weeks. At this stage of your pregnancy, you usually have a lovely round bump to show off!

Our pregnancy photoshoots are always arranged over 2 shoots, the latter being the newborn shoot within the first 2 weeks of the baby’s birth. Over the years, we have learned that this is the best way for our clients to get the most from the whole experience. Images edited from both photoshoots are shown together at the one viewing appointment a few days later after the second shoot.

Bump to baby packages can be purchased on our website or over the phone with us, also they make a fantastic baby shower gift!

If you already have a voucher with us for a newborn shoot with us and would like to ‘add on’ a pregnancy shoot to the experience, we can arrange this for a supplementary cost, please ask us for details and we would be happy to help.

WHEN IS THE IDEAL TIME FOR A BABY PHOTOSHOOT?

For our newborn photography shoots, we recommend you bring your baby along when they are 6-14 days old. It is during this time that they sleep more soundly and curl up easily into adorable poses.

Babies change dramatically, from just a week after birth, making it a really special time to capture your new baby’s precious and delicate features as soon as possible.

We allow extra studio time for Newborn shoots to ensure they are as comfortable as possible.

The shoot can last up to two hours and babies usually sleep contentedly throughout whilst allowing time for feeding, nappy changes and plenty of cuddles!

Also, it’s good to know that we welcome other family members to come along and take part in the shoot, this can also be an amazing opportunity to involve grandparents and other close family.

To avoid disappointment, we would always suggest that you contact us a couple of weeks before your due date. This will enable us to pencil in a suitable time and date if baby arrives when they should!

If your baby is slightly older than the ideal newborn stage then please feel free to call us to get the best advice on your situation, we’re here to help!

BABIES AGED 6 MONTHS +

The next recommended time-frame for bringing in your baby would be at the sitting up stage which is generally at 6-8 months old.

Babies have developed in size and strength along with a personality that makes this a fantastic time to capture how they are!

Coming in with your baby at a later stage will mean that your photographer will be able to focus on documenting their growing character and those beautiful, cheeky expressions!

Your photographer will also be able to document natural interactions with yourself and partner as they follow your gaze in your arms or even tightly grips your fingers.

All of our vouchers include the studio photoshoot (or two photoshoots in the case of the maternity voucher), creative editing by our creative digital artist, a framed tabletop portrait AND £100 credit towards any of our wall products (which start from £195)

If you are wishing to purchase an experience as a gift for someone, such as a colleague leaving on maternity or for a baby shower etc, this can be easily arranged and we also include a lovely gift box as part of the offer. If you wish to add additional money towards any of our offers, to give the recipient a larger value of spend, we can also arrange this with one of our custom value vouchers.

WHEN IS THE BEST TIME TO BOOK MY PHOTOSHOOT?

First of all, we recommend that you purchase one of our experience vouchers. It is at this point, we will ensure that you are on our client system, have your expected due date, and it will have given us the opportunity to have an initial chat with you to run through how everything works to get you all prepared!

If your baby arrives earlier than planned, it is not a problem, just let us know asap and we will endeavour to find a suitable time for your shoot.

For newborn shoots, we always suggest that these are best taking place on a weekday where we can allocate more time to the shoot. This is often necessary in order to feed your baby, wind, change, and settle them to get the very best shots. It’s also a time that often coincides with paternity leave which is ideal!

DO YOU REQUIRE A DEPOSIT?

No, we don’t require a deposit, however, at the time of the booking, all photography experiences with MI&CO require a credit or credit card number in order to secure the appointment time.

Being a small independent studio, aiming to deliver an excellent service and quality product to only a handful of clients each week, we have very limited availability for our premium appointment times.

We therefore require at least 5 days notice should you wish to change your appointment time with us, otherwise, an automatic £25 cancellation/rescheduling charge will be made to your debit/credit card.

HOW MUCH DO MI&CO PORTRAITS COST?

We believe in producing and supplying quality framed portraits, produced properly and ready to look fantastic on your walls. Every product produced is hand made in our laboratory bespoke to each order.

I DON’T LIKE MYSELF IN PHOTO’S, DO I NEED TO BE IN THEM?

We can totally understand how, so soon after having a baby, you may not be feeling your absolute best, it’s completely normal. However, this is truly a once in a lifetime occasion to capture some truly beautiful images of you with your precious and newest family addition. Our photographers use the most flattering and creative lighting to ensure you will look your best so it’s important that you do not miss this opportunity, you will thank us afterwards we promise!

CAN OTHER FAMILY MEMBERS TAKE PART TOO?

Absolutely. Capturing those emotional shots of your newest family member with their proud brother or sister, or of course with the gleaming grandparents or great grandparents is an opportunity not to miss!

DO YOU OFFER WAYS TO SPREAD THE COST?

Yes, many clients choose to ‘spread the cost’ of their portraits over several months with our internal easy payment plan which allows you to pay for your order in stages to suit everyone’s budget with no interest.

This enables our customers to maximise our special offers and make the most of our amazing deals without having to pay all in one go at the viewing

To take advantage of this facility, we typically take 20% deposit at the viewing (can be flexible if required). No credit checks required and you can choose to pay on any day of the month you wish, at a frequency that fits around your pay day; whether that be weekly, fortnightly, monthly or even every four weeks etc. This means we can personally tailor it to your individual needs and you can pay off sooner at any point, with no catches. Your bank card & account details are required at the viewing itself to take advantage of this.

WHAT AREAS DO YOU COVER?

Our specialist family portrait photography studio is based at 19 Well Croft, Shipley, West Yorkshire, BD18 3QH

Shipley is conveniently located within easy road connectivity to all surrounding towns and areas. We have clients travelling to us from all over West Yorkshire, North Yorkshire and even Lancashire borders; with clients regularly visiting our studio from Leeds, Bradford, Wakefield, Castleford, Huddersfield, Halifax, Ilkley, Harrogate, Wetherby, Cleckheaton, Keighley and all the surrounding areas. We also have many customers visiting our studio from Skipton, Grassington, from all along the ‘Aire Valley” and many of the Yorkshire Dale villages (as Shipley is very close to the end of the Aire Valley/Bingley Bypass). We are also less than a 5 minute walk from Shipley train station, directly connected to both the Skipton to Leeds and Bradford lines.

However far you are travelling to us remember that your finished portraits will be on your wall for many years to come, so travelling a little further to our unique studio to get something ‘extra special’ (that’s going to last a lifetime) is well worth it.

We find that even our past clients that have moved away as far as London, Wales and Scotland still come back to us for their next shoot and make a special family trip of it.

DO WE NEED TO BRING ANYTHING TO THE PHOTOSHOOT?

We have various posing bowls, wraps, blankets, and accessories at the studio. However, we always love to find ways to completely personalise your shots, this usually involves incorporating personal items into the shoot that have a strong connection to the parents or family. Perhaps granny has knitted a woollen blanket, the first teddy they had bought for them when they were born, items that reflect their name… There are so many ways we can make your shots unique and this is something that we will chat with you beforehand to help with ideas.

Outfit wise, we advise bringing a couple of changes for yourselves, avoiding bold patterns or branding, some dark and some lighter tones. We love to photograph babies, just wearing their nappies, snuggled up in blankets.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO RECEIVE OUR PORTRAITS ONCE ORDERED?

Generally, it takes around 6 weeks for an order to be art-worked, approved, printed, framed, dispatched to us and then checked. In certain circumstances, orders can be quicker than this so please contact us if you have any specific requirements.
